What is Homœopathy

Homœopathy is a system of healing based on the principle first described by Hippocrates, of ‘like cures like’.

This law states that a substance that can cause a disease can also relieve it.

It was developed and refined in the 18th century by the respected physician and translator, Samuel Hahnemann.

How does it work?

Homœopathic medicines stimulate the body to heal itself.

By using highly dilute substances, that in their crude form would cause similar symptoms, the homœopathic medicine may relieve them.

For example: Coffee is recognised as a stimulant – homœopathic Coffea may relieve insomnia.

Similarily, the effect of chopping onions is well known; the homœopathic remedy Allium cepa (onion) may relieve these same hayfever type symptoms.

How is it different?

How is Homœopathy different to orthodox medicine? Homœopathy considers the individual not just the disease.

So, as well as discussing your symptoms, I need to find out more about you as a person; your lifestyle and medical history.

Because homœopathy looks at the whole person rather than a particular disease process, it may be useful in the assisting a variety of ailments, from first aid situations, to acute illnesses and more chronic, long lasting complaints.
